About the Role:

CALSTART is seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented intern for a 3-month paid internshipsupporting our Business Development Initiative. Reporting to the Development Support Specialist, this role offers hands-on experience in foundation and government fundraising, CRM management, and workflow optimization. The intern will play a key role in organizing internal resources, streamlining data collection, and supporting grant development efforts, contributing directly to CALSTART’s mission in advancing clean transportation.

This is a part time internship requiring a 25 hour per week commitment.

What You'll Do:

  • Organize, maintain, and improve an internal resource library for the Development team.
  • Enhance workflow processes by sourcing and compiling key staff data, including resumes and biographies.
  • Assist with CRM updates and data management to support business development operations.
  • Conduct research and analysis to support funding opportunities and strategic initiatives.
  • Perform additional administrative and project-based tasks as assigned.

What You Bring To The Table:

  • Completed at least three years of college coursework toward a degree in communications, journalism, sustainability, business development, or a related field.
  • Strong research, writing, and analytical skills, with experience summarizing findings and creating reports.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) with Excel data analysis skills.
  • Ability to take initiative, manage multiple tasks, and work independently in a remote environment.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Familiarity with the clean transportation industry and sustainable business practices.
  • Experience in fundraising, grant writing, or business development.
  • Knowledge of CRMs and relationship management tools.
  • Background in non-profit fundraising and donor engagement.
  • Advanced Excel skills (Excel Certification preferred).

$16 - $21 an hour

CALSTART values transparency and strives to provide as much information regarding compensation as possible. The complete salary range for this role is $16 - $21 per hour. Pay is determined based on several factors, including but not limited to job-related skills, qualifications, experience, education, internal equity and other factors relevant to the job.
