In order for a digital nomad to get a visa for Germany, you will need to do the following:

  1. Gather the documents for a national D visa
  2. Make an appointment at the German consulate
  3. Wait for your visa (4 to 6 weeks)
  4. Come to Germany on the visa (it is valid for 3 months)
  5. Make an appointment at the nearest Foreign Office (Ausländerbehörde).
  6. Find accommodation in Germany and sign a contract
  7. Register your accommodation with the local Ministry of Interior (Bürgeramt)
  8. Register your activities with the tax office (Finanzamt)
  9. Open a bank account (e.g. with N26)
  10. Get German insurance (e.g. from TK)
  11. Go to your appointment at the Foreign Office with all documents, including the new ones.
