- Printed and signed national visa application form
- 3 biometric photos
- Passport and passport
- Biography
- Adequate health insurance
- Pension plan (if over 45 years old)
- Fee payment €75
Additionally for Freelance visa (Freiberufler) you will need:
- Fill out a form about financial solvency: bank statements, work contracts, payments from clients, deposits, etc.
- Fill in a form about future earnings forecasts
- Resume and motivation letter
- Educational Diploma. Will look at the ANABIN database (look for your university in the Suchen tab).
- 2-3 letters from German client companies where they should tell you why they work with you and what you do for them
- 2-3 letters of recommendation from past or current clients
- Examples of work, portfolio (when applicable)
Additionally for Self-employment visa (Selbständiger) you will need:
- Fill out a business plan form
- Fill in the company profile form
- Fill in the business concept form
- Fill in the form about future costs
All documents, except passports and insurance, must be translated into German and certified.
Step-by-step guide to get Germany Digital Nomad Visa
In order for a digital nomad to get a visa for Germany, you will need to do the following:
- Gather the documents for a national D visa
- Make an appointment at the German consulate
- Wait for your visa (4 to 6 weeks)
- Come to Germany on the visa (it is valid for 3 months)
- Make an appointment at the nearest Foreign Office (Ausländerbehörde).
- Find accommodation in Germany and sign a contract
- Register your accommodation with the local Ministry of Interior (Bürgeramt)
- Register your activities with the tax office (Finanzamt)
- Open a bank account (e.g. with N26)
- Get German insurance (e.g. from TK)
- Go to your appointment at the Foreign Office with all documents, including the new ones.
- Pay €100 for the card
- Wait for the residence card
